I would say, they are by now almost famous for their cracking jokes :)) :)) :))
And it get's better :o
While Vue and Modo are for free now
And an update is for 99 bucks ::)
They are really always good for a laughter :)) :)) :))
Back in 2010 i paid $29 for poser 6, it was already last years version at that point. and trying it out I thought I overpaid, but I wanted to make content, and needed Poser to work along side Daz Studio, which was free. DazStudio was still developing.
I did buy Poser 8 upgrade, also 2 years after its best before date for 59 bucks, but it had a good collection of content assets that made it sort of appealing. I definitely overpaid for it, cause the actual software had not improved significantly compared to the countless updates that DazStusdio was going through inthose days.
That was the last Poser I ever touched. I don't miss it one bit.
There are a few brilliant Poser users out there, and they occassionally post great art work, but compared to DS it is old tech. There s a very small subset of people who would pay for Poser now days..
But for sure not enough, to keep this program alive.
And yes, you're right, there are some people, who really knows, how to get some phantastic stuff done with Poser, no doubt about it.
Haven't used Poser since I left it in ver Pro 2012 (pre Cycles).
But I did read about the release of P 14.
And ... OH MY DEAR GOD !!
Obiously they have taken out the Clothing Room, which would be the equivalent of DS dropping dForce.
And for what reason ..?
But they have added something.
The comback of the Simple Material Editor - which nobody needs and nobody wants.
I don't know what to say, but to me it seems like everything 'Rosity and Bondware does tend to go sideways for some inexplicable reason ...
"Dummification", anyone ..?
Proof is in the pudding - as they say:

Wait WHAT?
I haven't seen that.
So Poser only with conforming cloth? That's way more stupid than anything, with that move they will lose the whole daz studio content buyers.
Rushing to the graveyard right?
As I said - I haven't been on Poser since I ditched it at the Pro 2012 version (went over to Daz when G8 was released), so I don't have first hand info.
But here is a thread on the Rendo forum about it:
Poser 14 - I have questions (https://www.renderosity.com/forums/threads/2996777/poser-14-i-have-questions)

In light of the latest Poser "development" I would say:
If you got Poser 13 - hang on to it for dear life !
It might turn out to be Gold ...

Thanks for the forum link :)
They are looking for an open source solution to replace / make the clothroom better?
And if they find some open source, they will use it in Poser and sell Poser for even more money?
From the business point of view, this is the most stupid thing to do.
Remove an important part (even though it is outdated) and say, it maybe will replaced with some better in maybe the next 5 years (time frame is my own!)
If I wanna keep my customers, I search first and make something better and then I can remove the old stuff.
They put the cart before the horse!
Maybe someone will start working on a obituary for rosity?
Would be a kind thing to do.
There are no words, nor is there a solution.
A Poser veterans rection to Poser 14 :
Poser & Daz Studio Fun House (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0BpoHNs3sY)
A bit long winded, perhaps, but remeber that this guy have done Poser for some 20 years.
So Poser 14 ... yeah ... right ...
