I'm an artist !

In the aftermath of all the sheit with R-Hub, CC-processors and other places, I've been thinking about what it means to be "just" an artist.

I'm an artist !
That means I'm independent.
I'm making my own money and I'm doing just fine, thank you very much.

I can do whatever I want and I don't have a boss or an AD constantly breathing down my neck.
I'm not selling any assets of any kind, so I'm not dependent of R-Hub, Ion and alikes, CC-processors or any other kind of market place.
I don't need to adhere and bend to suits, number chruncers or the whim of some business wizards.
I don't need to deal with leeches, ugly characters or any other kind of parasites.
I don't need to give an f-word about lies and deciets.
I can laugh at all of that.
Trust ? Nope !

I'm independent, so I can tell them all to piss off.
So, yeah ..
I'm an artist !

Good for you!

My mother used to call me an artist and my respond was always:
I'm a composer
since that's what I'm doing in daz studio.

Does it make me an artist?
I doubt that, even though sometimes I would like to be an artist :)

I don't know if my DS use qualifies me as much of an artist. Figure A wearing outfit B in location C under skydome D striking pose E...

It's a state of mind.
Do you create something ?
Then you're an artist - in my eyes.

You never been published in any prominent gallery ?
Doesn't matter - you're still an artist.

If you want to be a composer - then be a composer.
If you want to be an assembler - then be an assembler.
Nothing wrong with that.

You still have the need to create.
And you do.

For me, as you know by now, Nena, DS is only the first step of the process.
Setting the outlines.
The real work is done in Photoshop (or any other image editor of choise), setting the mood. adjusting the lighting, adjusting colour, retouching, overpainting of ugly artefacts and mistakes DS inevitable does, doing highlights where there aren't any but should be, putting in shadows where there aren't any but should be, and on and on and on.

In short - the stuff DS can't perform because it's too blunt an instrument.

Well, you have good company then :)

Paul Kelly has many painting of women in different clothes in different poses and so on.

The picture I'm using here is one of my favorites.
Kind of lasciviousness but aesthetic, beautiful and harmless, what ever one wanna see in it.

I think, you're right --- nope you ARE right

I'm still working on my mindset (and man I have a lot to learn --- still)
I always thought, it's presumptuous, to think or say I'm an artist.

And I don't wanna start about all I've been through from childhood on and was told, what I all can't do.
It seems, there are still rests left from this brainwashing.

You are definitely not alone in that, Nena.
I perfecly understand, because through my entire childhood I was told I was stupid, couldn't do anything and had an impossible imagination.
A perfect subject for bullying (since I wasn't like everybody else).
When I started 3D and asked questions about it to those who knew things, I was laughed at and ridiculed - and called stupid again.
For too long a time I was a heavily survailed product photographer for suits, number crunchers and generally braindead AD's.
When I finally broke out of it, I thought:
Enough of this sheit !!

And - here we are.
