Photography / Strong light - deep shadow
Last post by Friedland -
Since we have a large weekend coming up (at least in the Nordic), I'll submit yet another one.
Same camera as before:

Direct sunlight through the balcony window.
The cover of a notebook on the floor and on it a monkey wrench.
Light blocked by two binders (out of wiev) to form a narrow shaft of light.
Exposure compensated to expose for highlights (underexposed according to meter).

The advantage of "live wiev" is that you directly see the the resulting image on the screen.

So don't fear shadows ...

Thanks :)

I was tempted to, but then decided to leave it as is.

Same light, same camera.
And don't avoid shadows at all cost. They are much useful for adding atmosphere.

I put an empty vine bottle stand to the left, just out of sight of the camera.
Its sole purpose was to cast a shadow in the image to give it character.

In post I gave it a warmer white balance and added a sepia tone to make it look old.

... and there you go !
What is wrong with a mobile camera ?  Nothing !

A really nice wintery mood in this image.

Personally I would have tried darken it a tad to make the highlights stand out.
But that's me ...

And trust me.
You don't need Lightroom. There are plenty of editing apps out there for free, should you need one.

Some really good tips in there.
But cleaning the lens?
Give me a break - this should be an automatic thing to do ever time.

My cam has a horizontal line, that helps to keep the picture leveled, so I don't need to do a thing.
Won't install lightroom, but that's just me.

One thing I will try is to bright up the screen and see, if there will be any difference.

All the other tips, nothing new for me, but for sure helpful for many!

Btw. this is a mobile shot
